The Process of Illness: Part 1

philosophy Jul 02, 2020

Homeopathy is one of the most powerful healing modalities. But the truth is, homeopathy does not heal us. We heal ourselves. In order to understand the healing process, we need to better understand the process of illness. Why do we get sick the way we do? Jung stated, "We are not here to heal our illnesses. Our illnesses are here to heal us." We must understand the biology of illness and disease to better understand the process of healing. After all, if we do not understand what is asking to be healed, we will never find a remedy to inspire healing. So let's dive into the process of illness.

Our biology has evolved over many thousands of years. In this evolution, we are programmed for survival. Survival is imprinted into our brains. When we feel a threat on any level, mental, emotional, or physical, we use our mind to try to solve the problem of our survival. If the threat is not very intense or of short duration, we will find a solution and this does not get recorded in the brain. If the threat is sudden with a high level of intensity or of a long duration, then the brain records this conflict of survival. At first, the entire hemisphere of the brain will be used to find a solution. But if the solution is not found in a short period of time or the conflict is one of great intensity, the brain will record this conflict in a particular area of the brain.

The subconscious mind does not know the difference between our imagination or reality. For the brain, AS IF = IS. It does not care. When we have a problem that, in our mind and there is no easy solution, it localizes through the intensity of our thought into very particular parts of the brain forming a lesion. This lesion is a record of these thoughts and attempts at finding a solution to our problem or conflict. This is observable through proper diagnostics. Dr. Hamer noticed this effect and has developed his New German Medicine around this. Each area of the brain has a specific control of an organ or system associated with the conflict. Amazingly, the conflicts associated with different systems of the body will follow natural laws and make sense. He defined this as the biological invariant.

Let's use an example of a caveman who had to cross the river to reach his happy hunting ground. In the past, his grandfather died crossing the river. Just weeks before his father crossed the river. Each died of a poisonous snake bite. It is necessary that he cross the river again but great fear has kept him from wanting to cross the river. Should he do so, he may possibly meet the same fate as his ancestors. It is expected of him to gather food and provide for the clan, but the fear is so great. There are no easy solutions. He stays awake at night worrying about crossing the river.

The solution to the conflict provides healing. Two possibilities are available to him. The first solution is the practical one; kill every snake in the river. But to do so would mean that they would have to go for a great distance up and down the river to kill every snake. And if they missed one, it could be the one to kill him. The second solution is one of the mind. Create a solution that invents a new way of getting across the river; a bridge, a boat, stilts, some way to avoid contact with the water and the snakes.

Illness is related to the conflict, not the solution. Eventually, his brain said, "Since you have not come up with a practical solution or a solution of the mind, I will provide you with a biological solution." The next day he woke up and couldn’t move his legs. He had to stay in camp because he couldn’t move. This was the perfect solution to his problem and the brain provided it.

It is important to see that healing can occur even if a conflict lasts or worsens. Practical solutions are not the best because the conflict can occur again and bring back the problem. Solutions of the mind are better because it does not matter what happens. Once we have gone beyond the problem, it does not affect us anymore. It is not important what one wants or thinks or knows in regards to a conflict. What is important is what one does about the conflict. Solutions of the mind are best because they connect the knowledge of the conflict with a solution. In the caveman's case, he needed to bring it to action to change the situation, by building a bridge or boat, etc.

The story of the caveman is the story of MS. It is a double conflict. One of a vertical fall and self- devaluation, with the project purpose of keeping the spouse home. The caveman experienced a demotion in the clan and lost status which is a vertical fall in the clan. He experienced this as a self-devaluation of "I am no longer good enough, not a great hunter anymore," and it served the project purpose of, now my spouse has to stay behind to take care of me. This story is an example of the biological invariant and the reason for the illness. It was a perfect solution to the problem and the imprint on the brain eventually sent the signal to create the paralysis. He has now found the perfect biological solution.

Dr. Hamer and Dr. Sabbah have researched the causes of nearly all illness and the felt sense of the conflicts involved. This information is invaluable at understanding why we get sick the way we do. In my experience, these observations have been 100% accurate. In working with homeopathic clients since learning more about New German Medicine and Total Biology from Gilbert Renaud, I have found that sharing this information with the client has been powerful. The end result is that for the first time ever their disease makes sense. In addition to the benefits to the client, these observations have also been very valuable in understanding what has been asking to be healed. It helps me get to the core of their conflicts.

Having this information DOES NOT take the place of a proper homeopathic intake. The person will always choose the right words to describe the energy of their disease and the energy of the remedy. This process is absolutely necessary to find the correct remedy. Having this information alone is not enough. But having this information is a powerful tool in understanding the dis-ease process and seeing deeper into the individual. It also helps in knowing where they are in the healing process. Remember Jung said, "We are not here to heal our illness, but our illness is here to heal us!"
