The Importance of a Mentor

Having a mentor is one of the best ways to accelerate your homeopathic learning. It is an integral part of our program at the Resonance School of Homeopathy. It is the best way to get the personal guidance necessary to avoid the bigger mistakes and errors made by the novice homeopath.

 

We all have to start somewhere. There has to be that first case we receive as a homeopath. Not having participated in this role before can be quite unnerving for the new homeopathic student or homeopath. If the program for learning has not included case receiving as a major part of the learning process, then the student will usually be lost in the process and this lack of confidence will be known by all.

 

Having confidence and knowing how to communicate with the client is key to a successful case. It is an art to be able to sit with someone and know how to get them to open up and reveal what is asking to be healed. Once this process is complete, then the task of case analysis and prescribing come into play. At every step, a mentor is very valuable.

 

All student practitioners at Resonance School of Homeopathy can present cases and get guidance. This is a key element to our program. It is included and there are no extra fees if the student homeopath is not charging money for their work. (If the case is being charged then a fee is appropriate.)

 

Having a mentor allows the student homeopath to explore ideas and get feedback. The most important aspect of any case is knowing what is "asking to be healed" in the client. If the case is presented well and the testimony of the client is verbatim, it is fairly easy to tell if there is a well-received case and what is asking to be healed. If not, then the student homeopath will need to get more vital information. Without knowing what is asking to be healed, there is no case.

 

This one step is the most valuable step in having a mentor. Far too often, a case will be presented and there just is nothing there to go on. A few rubrics does not make a good case. Getting this feedback is very important. It will save the homeopath many years of trial and error, from making this mistake over and over again. This is foundational work that a mentor can help with.

 

Knowing which symptoms are important and which rubrics to choose can make all of the difference in the case and remedy outcome. Getting help with the remedies that may be considered for the case and why is essential. A mentor helps with all of these. A mentor who has years of experience can guide the remedy selection process and include information about remedies that the student homeopath may have never know. This is an accelerated learning method.

 

I have had some motivated students present more than 60 new cases they have worked on outside of the class. This is where the rubber meets the road and the real confidence gets established. Having a mentor for this many cases helps in better choices of remedies and more successful cases. It is a win-win-win for everyone concerned.
